• Rail project development and delivery specialist, SLC, is providing rail expertise, programme and procurement strategy support.
  • GCRE is a £200m rail testing facility that will accelerate innovation in the rail sector.

SLC is providing a number of its specialist rail programme management services to support the development of the Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE), a new £200m research and development facility in Wales that will become a global hub for rolling stock and infrastructure testing, innovation, storage and maintenance.

The company has already assisted GCRE with the procurement of the project including the multidisciplinary Rail System Outline Design Package, which defines the technical requirements of the railway test facility.

SLC is now liaising with multiple stakeholders to identify interdependencies and developing the governance approach of this complex programme.  It is also managing the interface of the design package and developing an approach to the future transition of CDM responsibilities.

Nathan Campsall, Director of SLC said:  “The rail industry will really benefit from this facility – capitalising on innovation and new technology, driving efficiencies for the industry and further development of a sustainable railway.  We’re proud and excited to be working on this project with GCRE Ltd and its partners.”

“We’ve supported the rail industry for over a decade, working with partners on a range of projects from building new stations to opening new lines. It’s great to be part of this exciting and innovative development, that will create new jobs and opportunities for local communities, as well as delivering wide-reaching benefits for rail.”

Simon Jones, Chief Executive of GCRE explained “We’re pleased to be working with SLC to help us ramp up work on this very exciting project.  SLC has helped us to develop our programme and shape our procurement strategy, giving us advice that utilises their experience from delivering projects with a railway interface.”
