On Saturday, 14th January, a group of volunteers from SLC Rail and SLC Property helped Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice with their annual Treecycling campaign. Each year the hospice offers the local community a convenient way to recycle their Christmas trees in return for a donation.

SLC Rail paid for two of the rental vans and five members of staff helped over the weekend to collect trees and deliver them for recycling.

Julie Abbott, Director at SLC Rail, said, “When we were approached by St Mary’s Hospice about this volunteering opportunity, we were delighted to be able to help. On the day there was a great atmosphere and we felt a real sense of satisfaction as each van load was sent on its way.”

Richard Green, Volunteer Treecycling Project Mentor and Lead Ambassador at St Mary’s Hospice commented, “We were delighted to welcome the SLC Rail and SLC Property team to our enthusiastic band of corporate volunteers for Treecycling in 2017, helping us to raise over £23,000 for the Hospice. With almost 50 volunteers and 23 vans we collected more than 1700 trees for recycling into compost and biomass fuel – a massive thank you to each and every one of them for their tremendous efforts to support the Hospice”
