SLC, the new rail station specialist, recently welcomed fourteen-year-old rail campaigner, Harry Burr, for a one-week work placement.
Dubbed Britain’s youngest rail campaigner, Harry is the Chief Executive of Sustainable Transport Midlands, a not-for-profit organisation that has campaigned for a number of transport schemes.
He believes that ‘when a station is built, people use it’ and has already put proposals together to build a new station near Daventry. He has also met with Rail Minister and his local MP, Chris Heaton-Harris, to discuss his plans.
Ian Walters, Managing Director of SLC Rail said: “Harry’s passion for rail and improving infrastructure aligns to how we think at SLC, so we were only too pleased to offer him a placement.
“He is an extremely impressive young man, and it was great to hear his thoughts on the future of rail in a post-Covid world.”
Harry Burr, said: “I’ve learnt so much from my time at SLC that will feed into my future career and my rail-based improvement campaigns too. SLC Rail has been a great place to work, and it’s been really useful to see how the rail industry collaborates.”
Harry was particularly impressed with Worcestershire Parkway, which is one of numerous stations that SLC has designed and delivered since 2012.
“There’s a lot about Worcestershire Parkway that I feel I would want to see in future rail stations, especially the design and how it integrates with other transport,” added Harry.
