SLC Rail’s Health and Safety Specialist, Mark Finney, will be putting on a mortarboard instead of a hard hat on 14th July, as he will be collecting his Master of Laws (LLM) certificate from the University of Sunderland.
Mark joined SLC Rail in 2020 after previously working at Merseyrail and West Midlands Trains and has since played a vital role in developing SLC’s Health and Safety culture. The growing rail consultancy provides project and programme management services for strategically important transport projects in the UK, including the West Midlands Rail Programme.
Mark works with numerous clients to ensure that their projects remain compliant with Regulations and that best practice is achieved throughout project lifecycles.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Mark took the opportunity to pursue his long-standing ambition of earning a degree. He chose to study law to understand better how changes to laws and regulations impact his professional practice. Throughout his studies, he particularly enjoyed learning about the commercial and tort elements of the law, which he found relevant to his work as a health and safety consultant.
“I’m delighted to have completed my Master of Laws from the University of Sunderland,” said Mark Finney.
“It’s been a long journey and a lot of hard work, but it has been immensely rewarding. I encourage anyone interested in furthering their education to take the leap and pursue their dreams. I’m looking forward to offering even more added value to SLC’s clients.”
Paul Fountaine, Director of SLC Rail, said: “Mark’s talent and tireless efforts as a health, safety, and wellbeing professional have fostered a positive and collaborative culture across all our projects. We’re proud to have him as part of our team.”
Ian Walters, Managing Director of SLC Rail, said: “We’re dedicated to supporting our employees in their pursuit of professional development, and we are thrilled to see Mark’s hard work and dedication pay off with this achievement. We’re confident that his continued growth and expertise will only further enhance the value we provide to our clients.”
