SLC’s Finance Director and Company Secretary, Helen Smith, has been shortlisted as a finalist for Finance Director of the Year at the 2024 Midlands Finance Awards.
Helen has been instrumental in leading the finance team across the SLC group, supporting the company’s growth and development. Her extensive career began working in Audit at Kidsons, followed by roles at PwC and a multinational telecommunications company. During a career break to raise her two children, she remained active as a treasurer for various small organisations and a trustee for the Birmingham Citizens Advice Bureau.
Helen joined SLC in 2015 and has overseen significant growth within the company, which now boasts a workforce four times the size from when she first started. Under her financial leadership, the business has expanded by 50% in just the past three years alone.
Helen credits much of the company’s success to the strong leadership and the passion of its employees. She continues: “Celebrating our 15th anniversary this year, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come, and I’m proud to have played a part in this journey.
She concludes: “I’m truly honoured to be a finalist for the Midlands Finance Awards and incredibly proud of what SLC has achieved as a business. I’d also like to thank the rest of the Finance team whose dedication enables us to provide an excellent service to the business and to our external clients and suppliers.”
The winners of the 2024 Midlands Finance Awards will be announced on 24 October at the Birmingham ICC.
