Meecebrook Garden Community
Working on the strategic case for a new train station for a proposed Garden Community in Stafford Borough Council.
A garden community is a sustainable vibrant, mixed-use community where people can live, work, and play for generations to come and offer opportunities for significant long-term housing and economic growth in a local area. The proposed new Meecebrook Garden Community settlement will be of a scale that supports self-sufficiency, with day-to-day services, community facilities, and a new main line rail station – all within easy reach for those who will live and work there.
Project Overview
Development of a new garden community concept by Stafford Borough Council. A garden community includes employment space, schools, leisure facilities, GP, and other health care provisions, as well as green space.
What we did
To support the sustainability aims of the project, SLC carried out a study to find out if there is sufficient evidence to suggest that there is a demand to support the provision of a new rail station at the site. We also found if it is possible to provide a train service and build a train station. We carried out an initial feasibility study to find out if there are any areas which might frustrate the aspirations of creating value for money train service connectivity at Meecebrook. Following this a more detailed study was carried out to investigate potential station sites within the Meecebrook boundaries. The report outlined several locations for the station, highlighting various advantages and disadvantages of each one. We also investigated the value for money and demand of the station considering the proposed housing development.
