Waterbeach railway station

SLC is working alongside the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) to oversee the design and construction of a new railway station, which will provide increased capacity for existing users and accommodate housing growth.

Background

The Waterbeach New Town is a major development initiative led by Waterbeach Development Company LLP Ltd and Urban & Civic plc. The development will consist of 11,500 new homes to the north of the existing Waterbeachvillage, located approximately 9.5 km north of Cambridge and adjacent to the Cambridge–King’s Lynn Fen Line.

As part of this development, GCP has appointed SLC to manage the design and construction of a new Waterbeach Station, situated north of the current station. This new facility will provide significantly enhanced rail access for both new and existing residents.

Once the new station is operational, the existing station will be closed and decommissioned as part of the project.

The new station will feature:

• Two platforms
• A footbridge with lifts
• A 200-space car park
• A transport interchange
• Accessible parking and drop-off area
• Cycle parking
• A new access road

How we helped?

SLC is currently finalising the Approval in Principle ES4 phase of the project and completing the Invitation to Tender (ITT) process in collaboration with the client. This project harnesses a full range of expertise at SLC:

Design management, stakeholder engagement, requirements management, client assurance, quality management, value engineering, and managing CSM and rail interoperability regulations processes.

Stakeholder management, managing the interface with Network Rail, schedule management and risk management.
