New access to railway station

Supporting a developer with a project that interfaced with the railway.

Project Overview

A new mixed-use development required direct access to a railway station entrance. This new access point is situated outside Network Rail land, meaning its ownership and maintenance fall under the development landlord’s responsibilities. Consequently, this project needed to be executed as an outside party project, with construction managed by Sir Robert McAlpine Capital Ventures.

Collaboration with West Midlands Railway

Jewellery Quarter station is operated and managed by West Midlands Railway (WMR). Acting as intermediaries, we represented the developer in discussions with WMR to facilitate station upgrades aimed at enhancing customer experience. These upgrades included:

  • New wayfinding signage
  • Installation of a modern ticket vending machine
  • New digital display boards and ITSO compliant Platform Validators (PVAL) equipment

Outcomes

The strategic advice and intermediary role played by our team were pivotal in the successful delivery of the new access to the station and the associated station upgrades. The enhanced infrastructure ensures compliance with accessibility standards and also improves the overall customer experience for passengers using Jewellery Quarter’s railway station.
