SLC is part of Costain’s consortium of specialists that have been selected by the Department for Transport (DfT) to provide technical and commercial advice on developing future rail infrastructure across the Western, Wales and Wessex regions.

Led by Costain, the consortium also includes GHD, InteGen and North Star, and will support DfT’s Rail Infrastructure North & West Directorate over a two-year period starting April 2025, with potential for extension.

Paul Fountaine, Director of SLC, said: “We look forward to working closely with Costain and other specialists to provide strategic insights and expertise to assess how rail investment can unlock economic growth and deliver long-term benefits to the regions.”

The consortium will also work with DfT and the wider supply chain to assess the impact of climate change on the railway in relation to a range of issues including geotechnical behaviour, flooding and other aspects in order to enhance the resilience and operational performance of rail infrastructure and services.
