We sponsored the ICE North East Integrating Carbon into Procurement Conference in February to help accelerate the integration of carbon management into infrastructure procurement across the region and nationally.

The event was hosted by ICE North East Climate Action Group and DARe National Hub and brought together organisations from across the industry to move beyond policy ambition and into practical delivery and aligning procurement strategy with net-zero outcomes. The programme covered the implementation of PAS 2080 (a global standard for managing whole-life carbon in buildings and infrastructure, designed to accelerate decarbonisation towards net zero), contract mechanisms, carbon–cost correlations, collaborative supply chain models and had hands-on scenario planning for infrastructure projects.

Sponsoring and attending the event allowed us to contribute to multi-disciplinary discussions shaping regional direction and align our own procurement and delivery strategies with emerging best practice.

Kirils Holstovs, the organiser of the event, ICE NE CAG Chair and Senior Engineer at AECOM said: “Procurement is one of the most powerful levers the industry can use to generate sustainable outcomes. The conference showed a strong desire from across the value chain to collaborate and unlock better climate and project outcomes by enabling all parties to succeed and play to their strengths to achieve common goals. Thank you to our sponsors AECOM, Balfour Beatty and SLC for supporting this event.”

The CAG group will work to share the outcomes from the conference and continue collaborating on systematically advancing climate action in the North East and beyond.
