An event to mark the life of Adrian Shooter CBE, the man who transformed the railways, will take place in Leamington Spa, Royal Pump Rooms at 19:30 on Thursday, 13 April.
‘Adrian Shooter CBE – a life of entrepreneurial public service’ will feature a talk by Ian Baxter, the president of the Friends of Leamington Station and Strategy Director of SLC Rail, to pay tribute to Adrian’s life, achievements, and vision. Ian worked for Adrian Shooter at Chiltern Railways and was a close friend.
The Leamington Society and Friends of Leamington Station have organised the event which is kindly sponsored by SLC Rail and BA Events. There will be just 250 tickets available.
“It’s a great honour to talk about Adrian at this event. We owe so much to him as he was the driving force behind the privatisation of Chiltern Railways in the 1990s and the development of its train services and infrastructure. Without his vision and determination, the Chiltern line wouldn’t be the same today,” explained Ian Baxter.
Adrian chaired London Overground, Tyne & Wear Metro, DB Regio UK (Deutsche Bahn), Laing Rail, West Midlands CBI Council and took an active interest in many other groups. He also made several presentations at meetings of the Leamington Society and the Friends of Leamington Station.
After retiring from Chiltern Railways, Adrian set up Vivarail in 2012, a Southam-based company that led the world in developing battery solutions for trains. Adrian was also the Chairman of SLC Rail, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Chartered Institute of Transport.
Adrian Shooter died in December 2022, having suffered from Motor Neurone Disease, and any profits from this event will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
