Qualification
Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related technical discipline, or Minimum HNC/HND in a construction-related field (e.g. Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying) with significant relevant experience.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our growing project development & delivery team. You’ll take the lead in managing and delivering major infrastructure projects within the rail sector, providing client-side project management support and oversight from development through to completion.

Working as an embedded member of the client’s team, you’ll hold responsibility for ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively, while maintaining excellent relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the principal client contact on all aspects of the project, ensuring client satisfaction and timely communication.
  • Lead and direct project teams through all stages of the project life cycle, from design and tender through to delivery and completion.
  • Plan, monitor, and manage project progress against agreed time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Foster strong collaboration and communication across multi-disciplinary teams, including engineers, contractors, and client representatives.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements including CDM Regulations, HMRI and ORR.
  • Work closely with Project Engineers to ensure client requirements are fully understood and delivered.
  • Proactively manage and mitigate risks to delivery, identifying potential issues early and implementing corrective actions.
  • Oversee and maintain project documentation relating to health, safety, environment, and quality; lead risk assessments as required.
  • Implement robust project change control procedures and ensure variations are managed effectively.
  • Regularly review project costs, forecasts, and invoicing to maintain financial control and transparency.
  • Manage the smooth handover and close-out of projects, including all associated documentation.
  • Contribute to wider business activities such as tendering, fee proposals, resource planning, and risk management.
  • Lead, support, and develop members of the project management team through appraisals, mentoring, and training.

Experience Required

  • Broad experience delivering complex, multi-disciplinary rail projects such as new stations, footbridges, depots, or car parks.
  • Strong understanding of civil, structural, and permanent way disciplines.
  • Proven ability to manage people and lead integrated, multi-organisation project teams.
  • Experience working client-side or within a co-located / seconded project environment.
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, able to build trust and influence effectively.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and entrepreneurial in approach.
  • Commercially astute, with experience in NEC3 or NEC4 contract administration.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
