We’ve recently been supporting a National Trust property in Devon on an early-stage study to explore whether a new active travel crossing across a live railway could be feasible to improve access and active travel links between a growing community and a large estate.
The work has focused on understanding what might be possible, the key constraints and how rail approvals and safety processes would shape any future options as well as a first-stage business case.
Projects with rail interface bring unique challenges such as operational safety, regulatory compliance, third-party approvals and complex stakeholder environments. Without the right specialist input, these can quickly become sources of delay and uncertainty. Our role is to help clients navigate that complexity, reduce risk and develop an evidence-based view of what is – and isn’t – realistically achievable alongside an operational railway and within the community context.
If you’re working on a project that interfaces with the railway, getting the right rail expertise involved early can save significant time, cost and risk later on.
