Works at Coventry Station are progressing well with the completion of a key portion of piles that form a part of the foundations for the new station building and multi-storey car park.
The Coventry Station Masterplan was devised to provide substantial improvements to Coventry station, supporting large increases in passenger numbers and improving integration with other transport networks. SLC Rail is supporting the Council with commercial and design management, project management and delivery.
The piles are part of the enabling works, which include an access tunnel under the Warwick Road dual carriageway, as well as a new accessible footbridge and platform canopies. They will support the new, second entrance building which includes a multi-storey car park.
In the coming months the station itself will see major works, the next key activity will be further piling and excavation of the embankment adjacent to Platform 4, to make space for the new, accessible footbridge to be constructed.
The piling and ongoing works have been designed and carried out with minimal disruption to passengers, as the station and platforms remain operational throughout.
